Helping our kupuna age in place and stay engaged and active in the community is something that everyone should care about. And Catholic Charities Hawai’i is there to help support kupuna and their caregivers with services and information to help them maintain their independence and well-being.

CCH has three programs that assist our seniors while at home and with their transportation needs:

Phone-A-Friend is a free telephone service for seniors who live alone or are socially isolated. By providing a friendly phone call, the goal of the Phone-A-Friend Project is to decrease loneliness and provide a safety check for isolated, homebound seniors.

Our Memory Mentor Program is a free in-home service for seniors with memory loss who are living alone with little or no caregiving support. In addition to having a friendly in-home visit and safety checks, volunteers can provide optional services (grocery shopping for the seniors, help with reviewing mail…and providing reminders. The goals of the Memory Mentor Program are to help people with memory loss and dementia live safely and independently for as long as possible while preventing isolation and decreasing loneliness.

Transportation Friends for Kupuna (TFK) is a free transportation and/or chaperone service for seniors to appointments. The goal of TPK is to help Kupuna continue living independently. Volunteers accompany seniors who need more than a ride to appointments. Registered participants must provide a 1-2 week notice before an appointment can be procured.

If you need assistance or interested in being a volunteer through Catholic Charities Hawaii’s Phone a Friend, Transportation Friends for Kupuna or Memory Mentor programs, give them a call at 808-527-4777.
