Making a Difference with Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi
This month, we are honored to spotlight a dedicated volunteer whose passion for helping others has made a lasting impact in our Maui community.
Linda’s desire to make a difference in her community has always been strong. From the beginning, she knew she wanted to help those in need, but it wasn’t until she discovered Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi that she realized where she could offer the most support. Linda had long been concerned about the affordable housing crisis on Maui, which has become a growing issue for many families. She recognized that many of the social and economic challenges people face stem from the lack of secure, affordable housing. With the rise of short-term rentals, locals were being pushed out of their communities, and the situation only seemed to worsen.
When Linda learned about Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi’s work to address these issues and more, she knew that this was where she could have the most impact. After receiving an invitation from Stephen Kealoha to join the Maui Leadership Council, Linda eagerly accepted, knowing this was her opportunity to contribute to meaningful change.
One of the most rewarding experiences for Linda has been her involvement in the annual Target Heroes and Helpers event.
During the event, many children who had been affected by the devastating Lahaina fires had the opportunity to shop for Christmas gifts. For Linda, seeing the smiles on their faces and witnessing their joy during such a challenging time was priceless. It reinforced her belief in the power of kindness and how something as simple as a holiday gift can bring a spark of happiness to someone’s life.

Linda has worked tirelessly to engage the Maui Leadership Council in Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi’s mission. She is excited to see how the council has come together, collaborating and using their collective efforts to create even greater impact in the community.
She believes that the power of community comes from everyone paddling together in the same direction, supporting each other in the pursuit of common goals. Linda’s dedication to this idea has helped strengthen the volunteer network, ensuring that the work of Catholic Charities reaches even more individuals in need.
One of Linda’s most memorable moments came after the Target Heroes and Helpers event when a volunteer hero approached her to share how much the event had meant to him. He told her it was the best day he had had in years, and he hoped to be involved again in the future. Linda was deeply touched by his words and saw it as a true reflection of the power of giving. His experience, like so many others, reaffirmed that it is through selflessness and service that we receive the greatest joy.

For those considering volunteering, Linda’s message is simple and heartfelt: “Come be a part of the change you’d like to see in the world. Each of us has a unique gift to offer, and together, we can make a meaningful difference.” Her commitment to helping others is a shining example of how one person can spark real change within their community.
We are incredibly grateful for Linda Jenkins’ dedication and the difference she has made through Catholic Charities Hawaii. Her story serves as an inspiration, and we invite anyone who feels called to help to join us in continuing this important work.
