The Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center is honored to recognize Mrs. Jane S. Higa as the 2024 Volunteer of the Year. Her dedication, hard work, and service over the past 28 years have made a lasting impact on our community!
Mrs. Higa has been with the Center since 1996 — nearly 30 years of incredible service. Over the years, she has volunteered for many Center activities, including the Candidate’s Fair, Show & Sell, Memorial Day Program, and many more. She has entertained at local care centers, written Christmas cards for the Navy League to ensure they felt remembered during the holidays, helped with cleaning, made Ti-Leaf leis for Memorial Day, performed Okinawan Dance, and much more. The list of her contributions is endless!
For 14 years, she has served in leadership roles for the Okinawa Nenchosha Club, including 14 years as Club President. One year alone, she logged an impressive 300 volunteer hours, which totals over 4,200 hours just for the club — not even including all her other volunteer work in the community! Mrs. Higa is also an active member of both the Program Committee and the Participant Advisory Board.
At 95 years old, she proudly embraces her age, attributing part of her longevity to genetics but also credits Lanakila for keeping her active and engaged.
