Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center (LMPSC) to Close Beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020 Due To COVID-19 Precautions
HONOLULU (March 16, 2020) – Due to health and safety precautions because of the evolving COVID-19 situation, Catholic Charities Hawai‘i (CCH) will close its Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center (LMPSC) in Kalihi beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020, until further notice.
Serving approximately 1,500 seniors ages 60 years and older, LMPSC at 1640 Lanakila Avenue is the largest senior center in the state and is managed by CCH.
“We believe temporarily closing the Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center is the responsible decision, given the increased incidence of COVID-19 in Hawai‘i and the recommendation that seniors avoid large crowds,” said CCH President and CEO Robert Van Tassell. “We need to keep our kupuna and staff safe and we will update our members when a decision is made to reopen the facility.”
Free AARP Foundation Tax-Aide tax service workshops that were initially scheduled for seniors at LMPSC and CCH’s offices in Makiki and Kona have already been postponed by AARP.
