Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center – The center offers recreation, education, and social services to elderly persons living between Fort Shafter and Ward Avenue. Programs include: ethnic clubs, exercise classes and activities, arts and crafts, singing and musical instrument instruction, and dance classes in hula, tap, ethnic Japanese, ethnic Korean, and ethnic Portuguese. Special workshops offered include: tax preparation, stress management, health maintenance, and defensive driving. (Age 60 years and older and living in the area from Fort Shafter to Ward Avenue)

Case Management – Provides advocacy, case management, professional counseling for psychological and social problems, assessment of needs, and bereavement counseling. Services are offered at some senior housing facilities and other designated locations.

Comprehensive Individualized Services – (Age 60 years and older)

  • Respite Services – Respite for caregivers of seniors (60 years and older), linkages to private hire providers, and limited financial support available.

Success Story: Maintaining Dignity through Independence

Housing Assistance Program – Assists seniors (60 years and older) with counseling and access to affordable housing options and affordable shared housing/small group homes for seniors (62 years and older).

Financial Advocacy Services for Seniors – Provides assistance in developing and maintaining simple budgets, check writing, bill paying, and financial advocacy. (Age 55 years or older, Available on Maui)

Success Story: A Helping Hand

Quality Living Choices – Provides an alternative for adults (18+ years) in need of long-term care. The program provides foster family and residential nursing care for persons who would otherwise be placed in an intermediate care facility or skilled nursing facility. Clients are assessed and matched to an appropriate foster home. The primary care provider in these homes is a certified nurse’s aide, LPN, or RN. QLC helps disabled adults continue to live full, independent lives in their community. (Clients need to be ICF/SNF level of care. Available on the Big Island.) Transportation Services – Provides door-to-door transportation services to medical appointments, shopping, resource agencies, and group dining and recreation activity sites. (Age 60 years and older)

Developmental Disability Waiver Services* – Provides home and community-based services such as personal assistance, skilled nursing, and respite care for persons with developmental disabilities. (State Referrals Only)
